Founder
Cathy Sibanda is a financial literacy and financial inclusion promoter. She is a personal finance consultant and an enthusiastic financial educator. She is passionate about financial literacy and as such she founded the Financial Literacy Trust in 2016, with a vision to raise a financially literate generation, The trust is an early market mover in issues of financial literacy and inclusion in Botswana. Through the Trust, Cathy sits in the Botswana Technical Working Group for the National Financial Inclusion Strategy.
Cathy is a Finance graduate from the University of Botswana and a Henley Business School Alumni. She is a certified and trained financial educator with the National Financial Educators Council. In 2017 she received a certificate of recognition for financial educators from the National Financial Educators Council.She is a member of the Personal Finance Speakers in the USA. Her vision is to advocate for the inclusion of financial literacy as part of the school curricular for both primary and secondary education. She has worked with various local and international organisations.
Cathy has had several speaking engagements and conducted seminars to educate the community on financial literacy. Cathy is a media contributor. She has previously worked with the Department of Consumer Affairs at the Ministry of Investment, Trade & Industry in Botswana in their public education programmes.She has regular radio discussions (both locally, and South Africa) on empowering the nations on financial literacy issues.
In 2019, She started working with ‘The 1873 FM’ in South Africa to empower the women in the Agriculture sector through an organisation called Women in Agriculture.The objective of the weekly live discussions on Financial Literacy and Crowd Funding was to empower women to build sustainable agribusinesses by adopting practices like crowdfunding.
Cathy is part of the inaugural Obama Foundation Leaders programme for 2019. She is a One Young World Ambassador and was selected as one of the 40 Icons of Change in Africa by Facebook in 2019. She currently serves as the Secretary General of the World Youth Leadership Centre, headquartered in Rwanda.
